Arrival Furniture

For some reason I thought I had already posted this.  These are pictures of the typical sofa and chair in the homes on the Dhahran camp when you arrive.  You will be ready for your own stuff!!

  1. Your blog and pictures have been so very helpful!! We will be arriving in Dhahran in July 2012 and I, too am very visual, so i now feel more prepared :) I don't see many women except for covered and was wondering what is appropriate dress code on compound? I have been told a wide range of things and am attempting to pack now. Thanks aain!

  2. Hi,

On the camp you can wear whatever you would have worn at home. I only wear the abaya when I go out into town and there are those that don't even wear that into town. On camp in the summer I wear skirts and tank tops or sun dresses normally. They are cooler. It does get cold here in the winter so bring clothes for that! If you have specific questions send me your email. There is a list I can send of what to bring via email. I will not publish your email here.

    3. Hello! Thanks for sharing this wonderful resource! We are moving in August and getting ready for the movers is daunting for a family of 6. Would you be kind enough to email me the packing list you have mentioned on this blog?

  3. Hi, thank you so much for all the info in this blog! They're awesome!! Could I ask about the furniture inside the house? Is there any basic furniture there already? such as a dinning table and bed frames? or we need to bring our own? We're still on the early stage of the moving process, does aramco will take care also the shipment from our home/base country? Thank you so much!

  4. These photos are the sofa's and chairs. A wooden dinning room table with six chairs is provided as well as a smaller four seater. Beds, dressers, bed tables and lamps are also provided. It is basic furniture that is provided but it will hold you over until your stuff arrives from your home country. I am not sure of the process from else where but from the U.S. Aramco will provide the shipping for your household furniture and goods. Best of Luck and ask as you have questions.

    1. Sort of. The main camp area actually has bigger yards than then Hills. It is a crap shoot as to where you end up. This camp is full. They seem to be getting houses done as quick as possible and filling them just as quickly. If you send me your email I am happy to correspond that way. (Will not publish that.)

  7. Interesting blog to read. We will be in Aramco soon we are moving from Canada my hubby and 3 kids. Do they have shops and restaurants in the camp there or we need to go out of the camp most times? Also apart from the Abaya what else can be worn to go into town? Thanks..

    1. Congrats. Coming from Canada I am assuming you are going to the Rakkah camp. It is the smallest and does not have restaurants other than a snack bar. It will have a small grocery store. I am assuming you mean clothing for women. The abaya is not required in town. Only conservative dress, baggy pants and a shirt that is also baggie covers your arms and perferably your butt. Most of us find it is easier to just throw the abaya on. In the winter I don't wear mine but summer it is easier. Here are some photos of the Rakkah camp. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.449243241840812.1073741836.170080493090423&type=1&l=027ea0b97e
